The API widget is intended for developers to test out their own custom widgets. After selecting the widget, you will be able to enter in a publicly available URL, which should point directly to your SWF file. The API widget will then load the specified SWF and allow you to interact with the widget to ensure that it works properly. The API widget provides for the container logic allowing your users to completely customize the appearance of the widget by clicking on the color picker icon to change the background color, the background border to be square or rounded, add a transparency level and even add a custom background image - without any extra additional work.
